International Day of Women and Girls in Science

International Day of Women and Girls in Science

As we celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in science this year, the Seychelles Parks and Gardens Authority(SPGA), has taken this special day to heart, and seized the opportunity to acknowledge and extend its most heartfelt thank you and best wishes to the hardworking women who have committed themselves to science, whilst protecting our Marine and Terrestrial Parks, as well as the National Gardens and Reserves. The SPGA Human Resource unit under the leadership of Mrs. Priscilla Finesse, have showcased their gratitude and appreciation to the female staff who are dedicated to scientific works undertaken by SPGA, by presenting the deserving women with a certificate of recognition and a small token. These women have paved their way in a career field which many associate with their male counterparts, and are continuously doing themselves and SPGA undeniably proud. SPGA currently employs 7 female scientific staff: Miss Nathalie Dufresne, BSC in Environmental Science; Miss Isabelle Ravinia, BSC in Marine Biology; Mrs. Natasha Einfeldt, BSC in Environmental Science with Specialization in Tropical Biodiversity Conservation; Miss Patsy Theresine, BSC in Environmental Technology; Miss Sheril De Commarmond, BSC in Environmental Science; Miss Dainise Quatre, BSC in Environmental Science and Miss Aisha Radegonde, a Scientific Diver.

Each entrusted with the honorable duty of overlooking certain scientific aspects of protected sites which are under the responsibility of SPGA, these fierce and persevering ladies have produced and also been part of various research projects and reports which have most certainly contributed to much needed documentation of our islands’ unique natural environment. SPGA recognizes the devotion of these female employees, who are constantly braving it out discovering and exploring the diverse marine and terrestrial ecosystems of our unique islands. Advocates for sustainable management and conservation of protected areas, the ladies are true role models for our youth, especially young girls who wish to join the science field. SPGA management and all its staff wish the ladies all the best in their careers and we can count on their continued support for many more years.
