Thai Ambassador Visits the National Botanical Garden

H.E. Ms. Sasirit Tangulrat, the Ambassador of Thailand to the Republic of Seychelles, based in Nairobi Kenya, visited the Botanical Garden on Thursday 30th March. The visit of H.E is in line with a series of exchanges which have been ongoing with her good office based in Kenya, with regards to the Thai Garden officially opened in 2014, located in the Seychelles National Botanical Garden.

The Seychelles Parks and Gardens Authority has been the beneficiary of a financial donation of USD3,000 from the Royal Thai Government. This has been facilitated under the Thailand- Seychelles Cooperation in Horticulture Project. The donation received will be geared towards the renovation of the Thai Garden, through the addition of plants, spices and seedlings etc. The visit provided a clearer understanding on the current state of the Garden, as well as the extent of the renovation which will be undertaken. The Government of Thailand has in the past collaborated and donated to the National Botanical Garden, through the development of the Thai Garden and as well as setting-up a propagation and tissue culture laboratory.

H.E Tangulrat commented that “The Botanical Garden is one of the most beautiful botanical gardens that I ever visited. Thailand and Seychelles have very good relations and have been working closely together with the Botanical Garden for a while. The donation is to revamp the Thai Garden as a whole and to commemorate the ties between the two countries”. The donation was accepted by the Principal Secretary for the Climate Change Department Mr. Tony Imaduwa. On behalf on the SPGA Board of Directors, Chairman Mr. Lucas D’offay said “We are grateful for the donation, and we wish to re-embellish our Thai Garden and reintroduce beautiful orchids in the Garden. We are optimistic that with the donation the Botanical Garden will receive an uplift that will in turn attract more visitors”.
