Kafe Bwa Sitron Officially Opens to the Public
On Thursday 3rd August 2023, “Kafe Bwa Sitron”, located at the National Biodiversity Centre, Barbarons, was officially opened by unveiling the commemorative. The honours were presented to the Minister for Agriculture, Climate Change & Environment; Mr. Flavien Joubert, alongside Mrs. Bernadette Willemin; Board of Directors Vice-Chairperson and SPGA CEO; Mr. Allen Cedras.
Kafe Bwa Sitron becomes the newest addition to the Center, as part of the Authority’s efforts to enhance its eco-tourism offerings. Named after the numerous “Bwa Sitron” plants found around the cafeteria, it is to be run by SPGA personnel itself. Kafe Bwa Sitron will offer visitors a true experience of the local cultural heritage. The cafeteria will mainly focus on serving locally made snacks and refreshments such as banana, breadfruit and cassava crisps, fresh juices, traditional infusions such as mint, gro bonm, tokmarya, zakobe and lemon grass, as well as coconut water. It is to be noted that the plants which will be used in the cafeteria, can all be found within the Garden. The short but beautiful ceremony was animated by children from Grand-Anse Primary School with a rhythmic song and catchy poem.
The cafeteria will operate during weekdays from 7am – 3pm and on weekends and public holidays from 9am to 4pm. The National Biodiversity Centre, launched in 2014 is geared towards conserving and showcasing Seychelles’ wide range of flora by allowing visitors to experience the vegetation of different ecosystems present in Seychelles. Besides its commitment to offer a unique visitor experience when visiting the Garden full of endemic, indigenous, native and medicinal plants, the Biodiversity Centre also boasts a nursery which facilitates local residents to obtain seeds and seedlings for replanting in their own gardens.
