SPGA & Partners Embark on Successful Clean-up the World Campaign

In a remarkable display of community and awareness, SPGA alongside two of its partners; the Seychelles Commercial Bank (SCB) and the SACOS Insurance Group, joined forces for two clean–up activities in line with the Clean-Up the World Campaign which is commemorated annually during the month of September.

The initiative to rally protected area stakeholders was aimed at tackling the concerning issue of litter which often ends up in the protected areas. Hence, the activities looked to raise awareness on the importance of environmental conservation. Through collective efforts of the organisations, two sites under the jurisdiction of the Authority was attended to; the Casse Dents Area, heavily frequented by the local population in view of the easily accessible potable water source which it boasts; was cleared by the SCB team and the coastline of the Baie Ternay Marine Park was at the attention of the SACOS team.

The clean-up yielded remarkable results, were about 25 gunny bags of rubbish was collected from Casse Dents, consisting mainly of plastic bottles, food wrappings, cans, car batteries, broken chairs amongst other discarded materials, similarly to the waste collected at the Baie Ternay Clean-up.

The success of the campaign exemplifies the positive impacts which can be achieved when we all harness enthusiasm and determination to protect our environment and biodiversity. Collective action and engagement illustrated through the campaign serves as a reminder that although managed and entrusted to SPGA, these protected areas remain a treasure to us all, and must therefore be at all times kept litter and pollution free, safeguarding our beloved natural environment and species.
