300 Bois de Natte planted on World Environment Day
Commemorating World Environment Day under the theme - Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience – the SPGA team headed by the Forestry and National Parks Unit mobilised for a tree planting activity within the Morne Seychellois National Park. In total 300 Bois de Natte seedlings were planted, with the aim of combating desertification and restoring our vital ecosystems.
SPGA personnel who are usually based within the office environment were able to actively participate and get involved in every step of the tree-planting process. It is with such activities that the SPGA hopes to continue inspiring and educating staff from various departments on the crucial work which is undertaken daily to ensure the protection and conservation of our environment.
During the year, the Authority will continue with its tree-planting initiative which serves as a shining example of how all efforts can make a significant impact in the fight against desertification and environmental degradation. Through the dedication and commitment of all involved, activities as such aid in creating a more sustainable and resilient future for generations to come.
To also commemorate Environment Day, the Inner Islands team participated in the ‘March Against Pollution’ which was organised by the Baie Ste. Anne Primary School in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment. Similary the Research and Documentation was present at the MACCE Roadshow held at the Camion Hall, showcasing the various research works and projects being undertaken, as well as the many innovative tools used by SPGA in its mission to ensure the conservation of the protected areas.
