Successful Office Incubation for Hatchlings!

Successful Office Incubation for Hatchlings!

On April 8th 2024, our Research team was alerted on a Giant Aldabra Tortoise nesting in the Botanical Garden. Following such, we successfully excavated and retrieved 16 Aldabra Giant Tortoise eggs, which were carefully placed in a bucket filled with soil to stimulate their natural incubation environment, which was then transferred to our Research Office at the Main Office for controlled incubation.

After four months, the team finally observed the first signs of hatching on August 12, resulting in the emergence of two hatchlings. As of now, there are 10 hatchlings in total, indicating ongoing success in the incubation process. These hatchlings have been measured, and weighed and are currently being fed a diet of kasi, koko, and patatran.
