EarthRanger Operations Centre Goes Live
The EarthRanger Operations Centre, situated at the SPGA Marine Operations base in Perseverance, was officially opened by Minister Flavien Joubert and CEO Allen Cedras on Monday, December 23rd. This state-of-the-art facility represents a significant advancement in wildlife conservation for the Authority.
EarthRanger is a powerful software solution specifically designed for protected area managers, ecologists, and conservationists. It empowers these professionals to make informed operational decisions by seamlessly integrating and visualizing a comprehensive array of historical and real-time data from protected areas. This data encompasses wildlife populations, ranger patrol activities, spatial information, enforcement resources, infrastructure, and identified threats, all of which are crucial for effective conservation strategies.

The innovative facility at Perseverance aims to enhance wildlife conservation efforts and promote the use of cutting-edge technology in protected area management. It is utilized for real-time wildlife tracking and management by the Marine Operations and Research Staff, who recently underwent specialized training in the software's use and implementation from the “51 Degrees” team—a globally recognized leader in conservation solutions.
In his remarks, Minister Joubert emphasized the pivotal role of the Operations Centre in advancing conservation initiatives in Seychelles. “EarthRanger signifies a transformative step forward in enhancing environmental stewardship, especially in an era where ecosystems are confronted with increasing challenges. The adoption of innovative technology has become indispensable,” he stated. The Minister highlighted that the implementation of this software would serve as a robust foundation for effective decision-making and management of protected areas. He also commended the efforts of SPGA in bringing this ground-breaking project to fruition.
CEO Cedras elaborated on the benefits of the new software, noting that data entry has been streamlined, allowing for seamless input via tablets or smartphones. “This ensures faster response times, and the platform's customization options enable rangers to log details such as patrol routes, species sightings, attach photos, and generate instant alerts for urgent issues,” he explained.
The opening event concluded with a guided tour of the Operations Centre, allowing attending guests to witness first-hand the innovative technology that is set to revolutionize conservation efforts.
