Seychelles and India Collaborate for Coastal Conservation

SPGA recently welcomed a delegation of visiting scientists from India’s National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM). Their expertise in integrated coastal zone management and sustainable coastal development brought fresh perspectives to our local conservation journey.

During their visit, Dr. Deepak Samuel V; Scientist in Conservation of Coastal and Marine Resources facilitated an engaging session exploring areas of collaboration, from ecosystem conservation and restoration, to science‑based approaches such as long‑term monitoring, ecosystem mapping, and ecological assessments.

Representatives from the Biodiversity Conservation Section within MECENR, the Seychelles Marine Spatial Plan Agency, MCSS, and SIF all benefited from this knowledge exchange, gaining insights that will also strengthen their ongoing work.

Collaborations like these are crucial for Seychelles as they connect us to global expertise and innovative science, empower our local institutions with practical tools and approaches and reinforce our ability to safeguard fragile ecosystems while planning for sustainable development.
